Holmdel Historical Society
We research, preserve and interpret history and architectural history.
Holmdel Township was formed by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 23, 1857, from portions of Raritan Township (now Hazlet).  The origin of the township's name is unclear, with some sources indicating that it was named for the Holmes family, who were early settlers of the area, while others point to Dutch language words Holmand Del, meaning "pleasant valley".

Our Mission
Our mission is the devotion to the conservation, education and preservation of the history of Holmdel Township.  It is a non-profit group that researches, collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits items of Holmdel, such as artifacts, manuscripts, photogrpahs and all things related to the history of its people, places and events.  Holmdel Historical Society encourages the study of our town history and offers these resources to the public.
